# Installing an Ekos skill

Every skill is free in the open-source repository at https://github.com/Ekos-Labs/skills. Each skill folder contains a `SKILL.md`. Your agent reads that file when a task matches it.

## Claude Code

For every project on your machine:

```bash
git clone https://github.com/Ekos-Labs/skills.git ~/.ekos-skills
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
cp -R ~/.ekos-skills/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/
```

For one project only, copy the selected skill into `.claude/skills/` at the project root instead.

Start a new Claude Code session and run `/skills` to check it is listed. Then just ask for the job, for example "Run a distribution report for acme.dev". You can also call it by name: "Use the distribution-report skill".

## Codex

```bash
git clone https://github.com/Ekos-Labs/skills.git ~/.ekos-skills
mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills
cp -R ~/.ekos-skills/skills/* ~/.agents/skills/
```

For one repository only, copy the selected skill into `.agents/skills/` at the repository root. Start a new Codex session, then ask for the job or call the skill by name, for example `$product-context`.

## Other agents

Ekos skills use the open Agent Skills format (a folder with `SKILL.md` and optional `references/` and `scripts/`). Any agent that supports it can load them from its skills folder. For an agent without skills support, paste the contents of `SKILL.md` as instructions at the start of the task and attach the files in `references/` when it asks for them.

## Check that it works

Try Product Context first: "Read my website and create a sourced product context file. Mark anything unknown instead of guessing." If the agent cannot find the skill, check the folder name, that `SKILL.md` sits directly inside it, and that you started the agent after copying the folder.

## Updating

Pull the latest repository and copy the skill folders over the installed versions. Your own edits will be replaced, so fork the repository or keep a copy if you changed anything.

```bash
git -C ~/.ekos-skills pull
cp -R ~/.ekos-skills/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/ # or ~/.agents/skills/
```

## Keys and tools

Each skill's `SKILL.md` lists what it needs, under "Execution mode". Skills that call an outside service read your key from an environment variable, for example:

```bash
export FIRECRAWL_API_KEY="your-key"
```

Put it in your shell profile (`~/.zshrc` or `~/.bashrc`) or your agent's environment settings. Never paste keys into the chat. Ekos never sees, receives or stores your keys.

## Order to start in

1. **Product Context** first. Most other skills read the `product-context.md` it writes.
2. **AI CMO Router** next, to pick what to run after that.
